SUMMARY:NJSSC: An Intergenerational Storytelling Workshop for a Green Amendment
DESCRIPTION:Join NJSSC’s Green Amendment team this upcoming Earth Week to celebrate both our planet and the Green Amendment. The Green Amendment includes both present and future generations in its text\, and environmental issues are of the utmost concern to today’s youth. However\, we are not the first ones on the stage here! So\, following the Amendment’s lead\, join us for an intergenerational dialogue and storytelling session on the Green Amendment. We’ll do a brief training on storytelling\, then split into breakout rooms with members representing as many different generations as possible where you will tell your own story about why you care about the Green Amendment. Our goal is to foster a safe space for sharing and hearing stories and for communicating between generations. \nSign up at tiny.cc/GA_workshop for the event on April 24\, 12 PM! You can learn more about our student campaign at tiny.cc/GA_facts.

SUMMARY:The Green Amendment: Protecting & Defending PA Against Extraction & Pollution
DESCRIPTION:In the decades long fight for a cleaner environment\, we’ve been fighting a losing battle. The sad truth is\, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution rather than prevent it. People feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water\, air\, public parks\, and special natural spaces. \nThe solution\, argues Delaware Riverkeeper Maya K. van Rossum\, is to bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority: our state and federal constitutions. In 2013\, van Rossum and her team won a watershed legal victory that not only protected Pennsylvania communities from ruthless frackers\, but affirmed the constitutional right of people in the state to a clean and healthy environment. Following this victory\, van Rossum inaugurated the Green Amendment movement\, dedicated to empowering every American community to mobilize for constitutional change to secure real protection for our environment. \nJoin the Plastic Reduction Committee of Weavers Way Co-Op on May 13 at 6:30pm EDT for a presentation on the Green Amendment from Maya van Rossum and a Q&A focused on how Pennsylvania’s Green Amendment can help battle destructive industries\, plastic\, and pollution. \nRegister in advance here!
