We’re working with grassroots communities, organizations, and individuals to lay the groundwork for recognition and protection of environmental rights. New Jersey Senate Environment and Energy Committee Votes in Favor of the Green Amendment
After 6 years of waiting, the New Jersey Green Amendment received a second hearing before the Senate Environment and Energy Committee on March 11th. Just 3 days later, on March 14th, in a packed room of observers, the New Jersey Green Amendment passed by a vote of 3 yes, 1 no, and 1 abstention. The amendment will now progress to the next step in the legislature before it can make it to the ballot for the people to vote on. Connecticut
After a robust hearing held on February 22nd with many turning out to testify in support, Connecticut’s Government Accountability and Elections Committee voted overwhelmingly in favor of the state’s version of a Green Amendment – the CTERA on March 26. Of the 19 member committee, 11 voted yes, just 4 voted no, and the rest of the committee was absent. The amendment will now progress to the next step. California
Soon to be the subject of its own hearing on April 8th, for the first time California has a Green Amendment proposal under consideration. Proposed by Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, a first hearing on the amendment is anticipated for April 8th before the Committee on Natural Resources. Washington
While there was no committee vote, the proposed Washington Green Amendment was also the subject of a robust hearing with committee members. It’s always interesting to hear the dialogue between national Green Amendment Founder and expert Maya van Rossum and legislators who are being given the opportunity to support a state proposed amendment.
